Lyrics

Evergreen

Michael Hearn (Car-Mik Music, BMI) Monica Smart (Monicat Publishing, ASCAP) Susan Gibson (Susing Gibsongs, BMI)

Just when I think I’m lost, something brings me back
As my train of thought, slips off the track
I’m feeling my way through, crossways and blind
It’s what you seek, not what you find

I don’t mind things that don’t matter these days
Time I spend on worry never pays
Now the leaves are changing, from green to gold
So I’ll change with them, I’ll be so bold

In vivid color dreams, nothings what it seems
I’ve turned inside out, and back again
Stuck out on this limb, dancing with the wind
How I long to be Evergreen

Now I’m ten years gone, in strange scenery
Like an old dust devil, chasing down a tumbleweed
I try to lay down roots, so I can just stay here
Blew out my candles, and I prayed a little prayer

I don’t mind things that don’t matter these days
Time I spend on worry never pays
Now the leaves are changing, from green to gold
So I’ll change with them, I’ll be so bold

In vivid color dreams, nothings what it seems
I’ve turned inside out, and back again
Stuck out on this limb, dancing with the wind
How I long to be Evergreen

I can’t complain, I’ve enjoyed the ride
Just because I’m running, it doesn’t mean I’m hiding
This wanderlust, it put me off the map
I followed my heart, until it brought me back

I don’t mind things that don’t matter these days
Time I spend on worry never pays
Now the leaves are changing, from green to gold
So I’ll change with them, I’ll be so bold

In vivid color dreams, nothings what it seems
I’ve turned inside out, and back again
Stuck out on this limb, dancing with the wind
How I long to be Evergreen

Stuck out on this limb, dancing with the wind
How I long to be Evergreen, oh Evergreen, oh Evergreen

Each Other

Lori McKenna & Brandon Rhyder

V1:
She don’t need him to fix the sink- no she can do it herself
The tools are out in the shed- and she don’t need his help
She learned it from her daddy- he could fix most anything
No they don’t make’em like they used to- anymore
V2:
He don’t need her to sew his shirt- no he can do it himself
She keeps a needle and thread in a basket- up on the shelf
He learned it from his mama- making hand me down blue jeans
Lookin’ brand new like they just came from the store

Chorus:
Don’t every strong man- need a strong woman
Don’t every little town- need a river somewhere rollin’ through it
Don’t every summer night- need falling stars
Don’t every 1st kiss need the backseat of somebody’s daddy’s car
That’s just the way it is- they depend on one another
That’s the way they need each other

V3:
She don’t need whisky to make him dizzy- she can do it herself
Dancing round and round in the kitchen in a low cut dress
He don’t need diamonds to turn her on- no he can do it himself
He pulls her in so close- she feels his heartbeat in his chest

Bridge:
He reaches over to turn off light- she can’t reach it herself
Then she quietly reads his mind- before he reads it himself

That’s the way they need each other

Shake

Lori McKenna (Universal Music Publishing/Hoodie Songs, BMI)

Don’t leave me is all I hear you say
Somehow that keeps me from all the plans that I made
Your promises sparkle I tell myself not to believe
The things that I want lose out to the one that I need

Time does not waste itself
A dream cannot wake itself
The truth cannot disgrace itself
An unwritten prayer cannot save a lost soul
Arms cannot embrace themselves
A heart cannot break itself
And I cannot shake myself from you

We both know there’s only so much a person can take
Only so long you can reach only so long you can carry that weight
So some of us learn how to live with what we know we can’t fix
So we walk tall and we act proud and pretend that its better than it is

Time does not waste itself
A dream cannot wake itself
The truth cannot disgrace itself
An unwritten prayer cannot save a lost soul
Arms cannot embrace themselves
A heart cannot break itself
And I cannot shake myself from you

Time does not waste itself
A dream cannot wake itself
The truth cannot disgrace itself
An unwritten prayer cannot save a lost soul
Arms cannot embrace themselves
A heart cannot break itself
And I cannot shake myself from you

Don’t leave me is all I hear me say
As you per sway me to throw the rest of my life, away

Let’s Blow Off Monday

Brandon Rhyder (Dogwood Hill Publishing, BMI)

You’re as pretty as a thousand words
Words that won’t fit on a picture
The way the light is embellishing you is magnificent and amazing
Tonight is our last night on the island
Went way too fast, the way they always do
I know they say everything changes, but why does it really have to

Let’s blow off Monday, don’t think about Tuesday
Stay a couple more days, layin’ round in the shade of the palm trees
We’ll make love till Wednesday, or did I just say Friday
Maybe next Sunday rolls around, we’ll be ready to leave town but for now
Let’s just blow off Monday

Like a good book you don’t want to end
Like a hero you don’t want to die
This very movie that we’re living in, I count blessings and shiny stars
Memories the ones we hold onto
Good ones made, replay in my mind
Love in faith and an honor to hold you, and have you here by my side

Let’s blow off Monday, don’t think about Tuesday
Stay a couple more days, layin’ round in the shade of the palm trees
We’ll make love till Wednesday, or did I just say Friday
Maybe next Sunday rolls around, we’ll be ready to leave town but for now
Let’s just blow off Monday

Let’s blow off Monday, don’t think about Tuesday
Stay a couple more days, layin’ round in the shade of the palm trees
We’ll make love till Wednesday, or did I just say Friday
Maybe next Sunday rolls around, we’ll be ready to leave town but for now
Let’s just blow off Monday

No Time For That

Brandon Rhyder (Dogwood Hill Publishing, BMI)

Can you tell me why you’re here
Do you know what time it is
Am I supposed to let you in
Looks like you’re drinking again

But if I were to offer you, another chance
I’d be giving up on me, ain’t got no time for that

If I let you in my heart
There are chambers you can’t see
It’s cold and dark and deep down there
Distant memories

But if I were to offer you, another chance
I’d be giving up on me, ain’t got no time for that

But if I were to offer you, another chance
I’d be giving up on me, ain’t got no time for that

I’d be giving up on me, ain’t got no time for that

The Huntin’ Song

Words and Music by Brandon Rhyder

My daddy took me hunting, when I was three
He taught me how to pay respect, he taught me gun safety
I started hunting by myself, somewhere around ten
Didn’t do it much, cause I loved hunting with him

He’d say oh good golly man sakes alive, can you feel it down in your bones
The morning’s just right and when it gets daylight
we’ll be bringing supper home
The good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise
Tonight we’ll be having chicken fried, with sawmill gravy
Daddy said come and get it, that’s how we live it

I don’t mind, being out here by myself
This forest is my fortress, it’s where I come to rest
My sky a cathedral, shining right through the pines
Living off the grid, the way my granddaddy did

Chorus:

So here I am again, way over on the other side
I’m reliving ancient memories, trying not to cry
These two kids beside me, they are my whole life
And I love hunting with them, like I loved hunting with him

Chorus:

I Hate This Town

Brandon Rhyder (Dogwood Hill Publishing, BMI) Keith Gattis (Gattis Music Publishing/Big Deal, BMI)

Just got off the plane up here in Nashville
Found some neon lights and we turned’em on
Hanging out with the singers and the dreamers just like me
Everybody here has got a song

I love this town, on the whiskey
I love this town after way too many beers
But when that sun comes up, and I start coming down
That’s when it hits me, you’re still not here
And I hate this town

Way out here in Hollywood, the sunset strip shines bright
It ain’t too hard, to lose all track of time
I got friends out here, they can get in to all the bars
Hanging out with the wanna be’s and the movie stars

I love this town, on the whiskey
I love this town after way too many beers
But when that sun comes up, and I start coming down
That’s when it hits me, you’re still not here
And I hate this town,

Just got back to Austin, good to be back home
Where I can play and sing, my own kind of songs
Back here in Austin, up north in Ft Worth

I love this town, on the whiskey
I love this town after way too many beers
But when that sun comes up, and I start coming down
That’s when it hits me, you’re still not here
I hate this town, I hate this town
Damn this town, damn your memory

Half the Time I’m Crazy

Brandon Rhyder (Dogwood Hill Publishing, BMI) Lori McKenna (Universal Music Publishing/Hoodie Songs, BMI)

V1:
I love it when she calls me darling
she says I ain’t funny but I make her laugh all the time
she cuts and she sparkles like a diamond – oh and she is mine
She’s even prettier when she gets angry
It’s hard not to want to kiss pretty like that
She tells me that I’m not listening but I hear her every breath

Chrorus:
She don’t know that Half the time I’m just lost in her eyes
Watching the way her hair falls on her shoulders
She don’t know that half the time
I’m counting my blessings and saying a prayer
Just thanking God She saved me
She just thinks that half the time I’m crazy
Oh half the time I’m crazy

V2:
I knew it from the first moment I saw her she was special
When she found me I was hanging by a thread
Ain’t it funny the things you find out there while you’re drowning
Oh they’re Heaven sent

Chorus:

Bridge:
Id be crazy to ever let her go
Oh and crazy would be not letting her know

Chorus:
That half the time -I’m just lost -somewhere in her eyes
Watching the way her hair falls on her shoulders
She don’t know that half the time
I’m counting my blessings and saying a prayer
Just thanking God She saved me
She just thinks that half the time I’m crazy
Oh half the time I’m crazy
Oh half the time I’m crazy
Oh half the time I’m crazy
Oh half the time I’m crazy

Good Morning Sunrise

Brandon Rhyder (Dogwood Hill Publishing, BMI) Michael Hearn (Car-Mik Music, BMI)

Good Morning Sunrise, I slept so good
You’re shining your light, like I knew that you would
Last night was so beautiful it made you cry, and I held you tight

Good Morning Sunrise, the coffee’s on
Let’s go to the back porch, I’ll ply you a song
The one that you said you loved that I sang, on that very 1st night

We’re so good, you and me
Love and light, are all I see
Living life in harmony on this magic morning
Make this day, like no other
Let’s hold on to one another
Take this time to rediscover
Oh and let love flow

We’re so good, you and me
Love and light, are all I see
Living life in harmony on this magic morning
Make this day, like no other
Let’s hold on to one another
Take this time to rediscover
Oh and let love flow

Good Morning Sunrise, I slept so good
You’re shining your light, like I knew that you would

C'mon Baby Hold On

Brandon Rhyder (Dogwood Hill Publishing, BMI) Bri Bagwell (Sony ATV, BMI)

V1
Everybody runs through a rough patch ever now and again
When the whole world is on your back and it feels like it’s all caving in
When the end of your rope is way too close for comfort
I promise you, the darkness is gonna end

CHORUS
So come on baby hold on, come on hold on
There’s some sun around the corner
Tomorrow is a brand new day
So come on baby hold on, come on baby hold on
‘Cause I’m here to let you know
That when you feel like letting go
The clouds are gonna roll away
Come on baby hold on

V2
Everybody needs a helping hand or two on this journey
I want you to know it’s okay to reach out for me when you’re hurting
When you have to hold on tighter ‘cause you’re falling down
Come hell or high water, if you’re on the bottom, I’ll always stick around

CHORUS

Where you’re at your breaking point
Staring at the fork in road
It don’t matter which way you choose
Cause we’ll never give up on forever and us
And I’ll always be here
To welcome you home

CHORUS

Haggard

Words and music by Brandon Rhyder
© (p) Dogwood Hill Publishing April 3, 2012

I need to get out of the city, drive a country mile
Get back to my roots, before two worlds collide
I want sausage biscuit gravy, sweet tea from a jug
So jump into my pickup truck, and I’ll fire it up

We burn our trash out in the backyard in a barrel
We feed our dogs and cats our table scraps
We get our eggs straight from the hen house, and our water from a well
Dig our onions and our taters from the ground
Yippee yi yo, yippee yi yay, I’m feeling kind of haggard today

I want to get out on the river, catch a mess of fish
Throw a big ol’ party that you don’t want to miss
We’ll have washer pits and horseshoes, shine and chocolate pie
Cause when I’m on the swing with her it makes me almost high

We burn our trash out in the backyard in a barrel
We feed our dogs and cats our table scraps
We get our eggs straight from the hen house, and our water from a well
Dig our onions and our taters from the ground
Yippee yi yo, yippee yi yay, I’m feeling kind of haggard today

The party’s almost over, the sun is coming up
People spread out everywhere, from here to kingdom come

We burn our trash out in the backyard in a barrel
We feed our dogs and cats our table scraps
We get our eggs straight from the hen house, and our water from a well
Dig our onions and our taters from the ground
Yippee yi yo, yippee yi yay, I’m feeling kind of haggard today
Yippee yi yo, yippee yi yay, I’m feeling kind of haggard today

I want to get out of the city, drive a country mile
Get back to my roots before two worlds collide

That’s Just Me

Brandon Rhyder, Dogwood Hill Publishing (BMI); 2013

I like to pick my guitar strings, I like to do my own thing
I like to drink a little cold beer come a Saturday night
I like to sit on that old porch swing, with my baby listening to the whippoorwills sing
It’s a simple way of life, but that’s just me

Yeah and That’s just me, that’s just me
I’d probably make a whole lot more money, if I’d move down to the big city
But that’s just me, that’s just me
I was born and raised a country boy and that’s all I’m ever gonna be

I like to sit in them sunflower fields, and watch that sun rise up over the hills
See them birds fly in like an old thundercloud
I like to sit in my old deer stand, and wait for that big buck to show up again
Yeah it’s a simple way of life but that’s just me

Yeah and That’s just me, that’s just me
I’d probably make a whole lot more money, if I’d move down to the big city
But that’s just me, that’s just me
I was born and raised a country boy and that’s all I’m ever gonna be

And these east Texas piney woods, they’ve always been my home
And I’m damn lucky to have a family to raise and call my own
You see the grass ain’t always greener on the other side
Yeah I’m content with who I am, and my simple way of life

Yeah and That’s just me, that’s just me
I’d probably make a whole lot more money, if I’d move down to the big city
But that’s just me, that’s just me
I was born and raised a country boy and that’s all I’m ever gonna be

I was born and raised a country boy and that’s all I’m ever gonna be

Leave

Words and Music by Brandon Rhyder
© (P) Dogwood Hill Publishing/Harlan Howard Songs 2013

I heard your footsteps down the hall, I pretended I was asleep
Cause I don’t want to fight with you anymore
There’s a hole there in the wall, screaming shame on me
I guess I should’ve been the one to walk out the door

Are you coming back to say you’re sorry
Are you coming back to give me one more chance
Are coming back to go another round
How many times can we dance this dance
Baby, are you still in love with me
Or are you coming back, are you coming back, are you coming back
Are you coming back to leave

I should get up and face you now, gonna keep my eyes shut tight
Maybe you’ll just crawl in bed with me
In the morning I’ll know how, to make the words sound right
Right now I think it’s best to let it be

Are you coming back to say you’re sorry
Coming back to give me one more chance
Are coming back to go another round
How many times can we dance this dance
Baby, are you still in love with me
Or are you coming back, are you coming back, are you coming back
Are you coming back to leave

Whatever you do, don’t turn on that light, let’s just sleep on it tonight

Are you coming back to say you’re sorry
Coming back to give me one more chance
Are coming back to go another round
How many times can we dance this dance
Baby, are you still in love with me
Or are you coming back, are you coming back, are you coming back
Are you coming back to leave
Are you coming back to leave
Are you coming back to leave

Love Red

Words and Music by Brandon Rhyder
© (p) Dogwood Hill Publishing 2013

I may be naïve wear my heart on my sleeve
Expect everything to work out in the end
I’ve trusted the most been let down by few
But what would life be if it only worked for me

My blood bleeds love red, my soul is wide open
Always get more back when I give
I’m still learning to crawl
But against it all, I refuse to hate
It takes up too much space

The older I get oh the brighter the sunset
Oh the sunset is the eternal road
When I lose my way back at the end of day
I always look to the east and there she comes

My blood bleeds love red, my soul is wide open
Always get more back when I give
I’m still learning to fall
But against it all, I refuse to hate
It takes up too much space

Because I don’t call you doesn’t mean I don’t love you
Because we don’t catch up doesn’t mean we’re not friends
In my house there’s a gathering of a small group of people
And that’s all that I really need
So if you’re looking for me
I’m on my journey

My blood bleeds love red, my soul is wide open
Always get more back when I give
I’m still learning to fall
But against it all, I refuse to hate
It takes up too much space
All we have is today
We cannot live in yesterday say no no no no
I refuse to hate
It takes up too much space
I refuse to hate

Pray the Night

Words and Music by Brandon Rhyder and Wade Bowen © (p) Dogwood Hill Publishing BMI/House of Sea Gayle Music ASCAP

Have you ever seen a prettier moon, I feel like I can touch it
Have you ever seen so many stars, they look like headlights on cars
The only thing that’s keeping us here, is sweet emotion
The only thing that’s keeping us here is fear

So close your eyes, and hypnotize me
Hold my hand, baby hold my hand
Let’s let go and take a breath and pray that the night will understand
Pray the night will never end

I’ve never tasted lips so pure, there’s nothing like a first kiss
I’ve never wanted someone so much, how I long for your touch
The sun is surely coming up, in sweet surrender
But I don’t wanna give up, not a moment too soon

So close your eyes, and hypnotize me
Hold my hand, baby hold my hand
Let’s let go and take a breath and pray that the night will understand
Pray the night will never end

So close your eyes, and hypnotize me
Hold my hand, baby hold my hand
Let’s let go and take a breath and pray that the night will understand
Pray the night will never end
Pray the night will never end
Pray the night will never end

Scat Kitty

Brandon Rhyder, Dogwood Hill Publishing (BMI); 2013

Scat Kitty your tail’s on fire
Got the little boys burning desire
Got your assets hanging out the back door
Sending mixed signals but you’re really screaming 10-4
Think you know it all but you don’t know it yet
Looking pretty with your butterfly tramp stamp
Daddy’s little angel mama’s little liar
Scat Kitty your tail’s on fire

Scat kitty your tail’s on fire
Scat kitty your tail’s on fire baby

Scat Kitty your tail’s on fire
Got the sugar daddy big songwriter
Little bride child figured out your bad game
Ride out of town fore you bury his good name
You’re the reason people talk about Nashville
Sucker fish with an ego on a big hill
Souped up diva witchy little whiner
Scat kitty your tail’s on fire

Scat kitty your tail’s on fire
Scat kitty your tail’s on fire
Some things never gonna change
Gotta hit rock bottom before you feel your pain

Scat kitty your tail’s on fire
Paint yourself a soul survivor
Baby daddy is the best thing for you
Love ain’t a feeling it’s something that you do
Pucker up for the shock of a lifetime
Nobody gonna kiss your behind
Life ain’t easy sing it with a choir
Scat kitty your tail’s on fire

scat kitty your tail’s on fire
Oh, ohh, scat kitty your tail’s on fire
Some things never gonna change
Gotta hit rock bottom before you feel your pain

Scat kitty your tail’s on fire

Richest Poor People

Words and Music by Brandon Rhyder
© (p) 2013 Dogwood Hill Publishing BMI

I spent the early evening cooking dinner at home
Watching the babies play with their mom
There are deer in the backyard the sun is going down
The house smells of bacon and eggs
You can have your breakfast for your dinner, chase it with a beer
Hold to the ones that mean the most

Standing in the walls of love, standing in the arms of love
We can dance around the moon, to another Walt Wilkins tune
We’re the richest poor people around

We switch to wine from a box sit on the back porch
Listening to a lonesome whippoorwill
We don’t hear them here much in these hill country hills
It reminds me of when I was young
You can have the cake and eat it too, while you hold your lovers hand
Watch the kids run through the sprinklers

Standing in the walls of love, standing in the arms of love
We can dance around the living room, to another Darrell Scott tune
We’re the richest poor people around

We got all that we need, each other’s company
We’re the richest poor people around

I got a 68′ Chevy with a three on the tree
Tomorrow we’ll have burgers and fries
Cause we’re the luckiest family alive

Don’t Rob Me Blind

Words and Music by Matt Powell
© (p) 2013 BMI Briar Mountain Music

In the shadows, it’s too dark to see
We get what we want, stealing from thieves
There’s never any honor, just a little relief
Never thought too much about it
Till you turned it around on me
How it all went down I don’t remember
You’re the best, I’m impressed, I surrender

Take anything you want but don’t rob me blind
I love the way you work, I want to watch you steal away the night
Take my heart, take my soul, take your time
Take it all just leave my eyes
Don’t rob me blind

Deadlier precision, I’ve never seen,
Your lies are loaded, and pointing at me
Let me make this easy, I’ll tie my hands on my own
I’ll tell you where I hide my love, I’m sure you already know
How you turned me out I don’t remember
I’m impressed, I confess, I surrender

How you got by me I don’t remember
But you’re the best, I confess, I surrender

Take anything you want but don’t rob me blind
I love the way you work, I want to watch you steal away the night
Take my heart, take my soul, take your time
Take it all just leave my eyes, take it all but leave my eyes
Take it all but leave my eyes, Don’t rob me blind
Don’t rob me blind

Undercover Lover

Words and Music by Brandon Rhyder & Matt Powell
© (p) 2013 Dogwood Hill Publishing BMI/Briar Mountain Music BMI

I need to know, baby can you keep a secret
I need know, before we get in any deeper
I need you, I don’t need any other
If you swear to tell no other
I’ll be your undercover lover

So keep this in mind, before we take it any further
Cause baby sometimes, this kind of thing can lead to murder
It’s a dangerous game, that we’re getting into
So if you swear to tell no other
I’ll be your undercover lover

Oh baby if you can be cool, I’ll be your one time thing
My only rule, before I buy you this drink
You can’t go and run and tell all your friends
Or this thing will be over before it begins
So swear to tell no other
I’ll be your undercover lover

SOLO

Oh baby If you can be cool, I’ll be your one time thing
My only rule, before I buy you this drink
You can’t go and run and tell all your friends
Or this thing will be over, before it begins
So swear to tell no other
I’ll be your undercover lover

Oh baby swear to tell no other
I’ll be your undercover lover
I’ll be your undercover lover
I’ll be your undercover lover
I’ll be your undercover lover

Some People

Words and Music by Brandon Rhyder
© (p) 2013 Dogwood Hill Publishing BMI

Some nights I crawl inside my head, find a demon to be fed
I put him back upon the shelf, I worry myself half to death
I lose more sleep from where I’ve been, my bad choices never end
My depression is my friend, it helps me feel again again

I can’t help it I’m a little bit strange
That I risk it to just feel the pain
I can’t help it that I love it on the bottom
I’m hanging with the fallen, there are angels down here
Feeding off of what remains
Some people like it when it rains

From the inside looking out, you’d think that I am full of doubt
But that has never been the case, sometimes I run sometimes I chase
It motivates me from within, sometimes my rope gets pretty thin
Life is full of choice and sin, it helps me feel again again

I can’t help it I’m a little bit strange
That I risk it to feel all the pain
I can’t help it if I like it on the bottom
I’m hanging with the fallen, there are angels down here
Feeding off of what remains
Some people like it when it rains

There are broken hearts, there are shattered dreams
There are roads that end
You know there is some truth to what they say
Never forget where they came from or where you’ve been

I can’t help it I’m a little bit strange
That I risk it all to feel all the pain
I can’t help it if I like it on the bottom
Hanging with the fallen, there are angels down here
Feeding off of what remains
The only thing that keeps me sane
Some people like it when it rains
Some people like it when it rains

I can’t help it if I like it on the bottom
I’m hanging with the fallen, there are angels down here
Feeding off of what remains
Some people like it when it rains

There are broken hearts, there are shattered dreams
There are roads that end
You know there is some truth to what they say
Never forget where they came from or where you’ve been

I can’t help it I’m a little bit strange
That I risk it all to feel all the pain
I can’t help it if I like it on the bottom
Hanging with the fallen, there are angels down here
Feeding off of what remains
The only thing that keeps me sane
Some people like it when it rains
Some people like it when it rains
